Public Sewers are maintained by sewerage undertakers, financed through sewerage rates. Private or shared systems, including tanks or treatment plant, are your sole or joint responsibility.

Package Treatment Plant - requires servicing (usually annually) and de-sludging Septic Tank - requires regular emptying (usually annually)
Cesspit - requires frequent emptying (often monthly).
