Gullys around your property are designed to intercept silt before it reaches the drain. Where gullys exist, they should be inspected annually and emptied to avoid silt entering underground drains. Deposited silt reduces the capacity of the pipe an can lead to flooding under heavy rainfall. If regular flooding has started to occur, it may be due to siltation. A gradual reduction in a garden’s ability to drain after rainfall may be an indication of siltation of land drainage.
Moderate silt deposits are generally easy to clear using high pressure jetting. However, if siltation becomes excessive & compacted, then matters are complicated.
Newer properties may not have rainwater gullys, and the rainwater down pipe connects directly into underground pipework. Whilst this may be more economical for the developer, it renders regular maintenance difficult.
We offer a full service for dealing with silted pipework and can advise on future maintenance to prevent further blockages.
Surface water drains are often constructed with insufficient access for maintenance, eventually leading to blockages. EDS can restore your drains to their original condition.
